This is a rare view of the Moon. Looking through my archives, the only time I photographed a similar phase was after the 2017 Solar Eclipse.
The Moon is now significant higher than Venus after Sunset, and fuller. So I took my digital camera and tripod outside to take the above picture.
Though I missed taking a picture of the Full Moon on March 1st, I did get this picture the following night of the early Waning Moon.
When is the Moon truly full? If you look at my image above from last night, taken with my digital camera, you may believe this is a Full Moon.
The Moon, but not the Moon. Quickly I detached my smartphone from its mount and took several pictures of the phenomenon.
Farmers and early risers will disagree, but I think of the Moon’s waning phases as backwards.
We usually never see a late afternoon Moon.
After waiting hours for the clouds to clear on Jupiter opposition day, I finally had a chance to photograph it again with my new Canon EOS.

Waxing Moon notwithstanding, these conditions were perfect for tripoding my camera and trying out my new wide-field lens.
