Jupiter and Venus Together on March 1st, 2023

Starlog March 1st, 2023, 6:18 p.m. local time

Sometimes there are appointments and commitments that interrupt even my astronomy hobby on important dates. This past Wednesday was one such occurrence. For despite the close approach of Jupiter and Venus and the remarkably clear skies (minus wisps of clouds), I was unable to be anywhere near my telescope or to have a passable astrophotography camera setup to record the event.

Instead, I had a parking lot, and my iPhone. I was glad, at least, to have observed the sighting, if only for a few minutes. And the accompanying image is not all that bad, if you can see the two planets in the middle of my picture.

To better see the planet dots in the center, Jupiter (left) and Venus (right), use this link to see them in another tab, then you can magnify your browser page.
